In a remarkable example of early—and valuable—talent, two paintings by young artist Aaron Barrios, age 5, will be auctioned online today. The proceeds from the sale of the paintings, which are part of the exhibition You, the Art and Me, currently on display at Rabeca Cultural in Sousas, will be donated to Centro Infantil Boldrini and Projeto Retreta, based in Vinhedo—where the young artist lives with his family. Bidding opens at 10 a.m. To participate in the auction, interested parties must register on the auctioneer’s website www.liderleiloes.com.br under the “register” option and send an email to assistente@liderleiloes.com.br to gain access to the auction.
The painting chosen to be donated to Centro Infantil Boldrini is titled Waterfall, and for Projeto Retreta, which offers music lessons, the selected piece is The Saxophone.
Aaron’s parents say that after noticing their son’s interest in painting, they always encouraged him, although his works have never been sold, despite high demand. The idea is to show the young artist that he can help others through his art. “The desire to donate a painting to Hospital Boldrini came after Aaron learned about the care given to the children treated there daily. After visiting the place, he dedicated himself to creating an exclusive painting, filled with his feelings and understanding in support of these causes,” explains Aaron’s mother, Rose Barrios.
As for Retreta, it was a way to help an organization that operates in another area that fascinates the boy: music. Aaron takes violin lessons and even attends performances by adult musicians. At 5 years old, in addition to his early talent in painting and music, he is like any other boy his age—very active, and enjoys karate, biking, playing soccer, and having fun with toy cars and friends. Rose says that ever since he was able to sit, they gave him finger paints to play with. At age 2, he moved on to gouache paints, and noticing his interest, they provided him with canvases and acrylic paints. He began playing with colors, not mixing them, but giving them form. “We never forced him, but seeing how much he enjoyed it, we supported him by providing the right environment and materials for his creativity. The choice of colors was always his—he would point to what he wanted on the shelves,” says Rose. Until the end of the auction, the exhibition, with about 20 paintings, will remain on display at Rabeca Cultural.
